How I loved this book, its just gorgeous in its storytelling。 And there is even what all romances and Christmas books could do with a wonderful big gesture that makes you smile! And there is Belle who is hoping to help Rory rediscover if not a love of Christmas, then less of a fear of the season, while Rory is back in the UK for his mum's health diagnosis, and isn't expecting to fall into Belle's orbit, who he knew at uni。 These are characters that it took me a few chapters to get an understanding of, and to be sure I did like them and gelled with the story。 But once I did I was whizzing through the pages。 Each chapter focuses on a day in December, and it is such a great way of presenting this story and we get chapters or part chapters from the focal point of both Belle (with her Shakespeare and Christmas obsessions) and Rory (who is reputation manager and easily his most tricky at the moment is Belle's father)。 Ah Belle's father, what a horrible, truly despicable man he is with rather outdated views when it comes to women and sex ('d rather not say more but rest assured he is only spouting opinions, rather than any graphic scenes of the nature he is referring to)。 Whereas Marsha, Belle's little god-daughter is just amazing, I loved every scene she is in, her also enjoyed the dynamics between her mother Luisa and Belle, who seem so different but get on so well。 And then there is Rory's mum Alison who brings so much life to every scene she is in, and the pair of them shopping for nightwear is certainly a memorable scene, that is having my laugh just recalling it now。 This is just an all around feel good book for this Christmas reading season, and shows that the author is capable of writing more than just about my favourite Cornish Village School! I really look forward to seeing what other ideas she has for books going forwards。 Thank you to One More Chapter and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily。 。。。more

This isn't a Will-they-won't-they? book; you know from the cover that Rory and Belle are destined for each other。 Indeed, in thirty-one days。 It's a How-will-they-get-together? book。 And one of the many clever things about this story is that Kitty Wilson puts big, psychologically believable hurdles in their path。Rory is still grieving for the 'perfect' wife who was killed in a car accident after a row (come on, surely the perfect wife was having an affair)。 He's returned to Bristol to be with hi This isn't a Will-they-won't-they? book; you know from the cover that Rory and Belle are destined for each other。 Indeed, in thirty-one days。 It's a How-will-they-get-together? book。 And one of the many clever things about this story is that Kitty Wilson puts big, psychologically believable hurdles in their path。Rory is still grieving for the 'perfect' wife who was killed in a car accident after a row (come on, surely the perfect wife was having an affair)。 He's returned to Bristol to be with his mother who has been diagnosed with breast cancer。 Belle comes from a dysfunctional family with a famous, alcoholic father, and a probably coercively controlled mother。 Neither gave her emotional support as she grows up。 These complexities have already made Every Day in December a cut above many contemporary romances。 There is a supporting cast of loveable characters, and a smattering of Shakespeare throughout。 Kitty Wilson's writing is lively and witty。 I wouldn't describe this as a RomCom - there's a deeper level going on。 (Yeah, yeah, I know RomCom doesn't always mean "fluffy" - but they often are light and intended as a quick read。 This book asks for more attention。)The structure is great: other than the prologue of 5 years previously, the story takes us from 1st to 31st December。 This is possibly the one weakness for me though: I wished December had 28 days, like February。 Spinning the story out for 31 days when Rory and Belle should have been getting honest about their feelings in the final quarter of the book was a tad frustrating。 Of course the book had to culminate at midnight on New Year's Eve。 But that meant we never see Rory and Belle as a loving couple。 Could there have been an epilogue to balance the prologue? Aha! or a sequel with them as side characters to a new story! Can we have Jamal centre stage next? Or his sister? Like, does Kitty Wilson need suggestions from a random person on Goodreads? Hmm, I thought not。 。。。more

‘Two people, one month to fall in love’ - cover tag line。My thanks to HarperCollins U。K。 One More Chapter and HarperCollins U。K。 Audio for an eARC and review copy of the unabridged audiobook, both via NetGalley, of ‘Every Day in December’ by Kitty Wilson in exchange for an honest review。 The audiobook is narrated by Katy Sobey and Joe Jameson。While I don’t read a great number of romances or romantic comedies, every now and then I crave a little escapism。 I found this novel a total delight and re ‘Two people, one month to fall in love’ - cover tag line。My thanks to HarperCollins U。K。 One More Chapter and HarperCollins U。K。 Audio for an eARC and review copy of the unabridged audiobook, both via NetGalley, of ‘Every Day in December’ by Kitty Wilson in exchange for an honest review。 The audiobook is narrated by Katy Sobey and Joe Jameson。While I don’t read a great number of romances or romantic comedies, every now and then I crave a little escapism。 I found this novel a total delight and read in a single day。The story is told from two points of view and each of its 31 chapters is allocated to a day in December。On the 1st December Belle Wilde has been laid off and thus finds herself ‘financially challenged’。 While she comes from a privileged background, her parents are not supportive。 Yet Belle believes that in December, magic can happen and is determined to improve her situation。 Rory Walters is no fan of December。 Five years ago his life was changed forever and he moved to Australia to get away from his memories。 This year he has come home to see his family though he expects that he will just have to endure the festive season。 Rory and Belle had known each other in university。 He is now in Reputation Management and has been hired by Nick Wilde, Belle’s dad。 While considered a national treasure, Nick’s reputation is currently in tatters。 As Belle observes: “he is a man that should never use the words ‘me’ and ‘too’ together, never ever, ever。”Now that Belle and Rory are getting reacquainted, she takes on the mission to not only sort out her own life but to change Rory’s mind about December by appointing herself his personal Christmas elf。There is also a Shakespearean theme running through the novel。 Belle loves the works of Shakespeare and for years has been developing a programme to introduce Shakespeare to school children。 Each chapter opens with a relevant Shakespearean quote。This was a lovely story that was whimsical and yet had elements of drama, including coming to terms with loss。 I feel it was a good move to have Belle and Rory be friends, who have been out of touch, rather than meeting for the first time。 With respect to its audiobook, obviously Katy Sobey and Joe Jameson read the sections voiced by Belle and Rory respectively。 Both actors have narrated an impressive number of audiobooks and they both brought a lot of energy to their readings。I was completely taken with this novel, finding it well written, funny and moving。 Plus, of course, romantic。 It is definitely a feel-good read。Every December my reading group selects a light-hearted novel with a Christmas theme, so this year I am going to suggest ‘Every Day in December’ to them as it’s a novel that I feel everyone would enjoy。Definitely recommended。 。。。more

What a fabulously funny romance story。 I laughed so much whilst listening, I had to stop and rewind several times! I loved the characters, I could visualise them both in my head and wanted to hug them as they both had their issues。 I thought the way the author brought in the family issues was excellent a that is what shapes most of us and in this story it worked beautifully。 The narrators were great too - both brought the story alive。 I started listening to this book at lunchtime yesterday and f What a fabulously funny romance story。 I laughed so much whilst listening, I had to stop and rewind several times!
